Etching, 1928
175 x 225mm [265 x 303 mm]
Ref: Garton 8 state iii/iv
A magnificent early proof impression printed by Tanner of the third state aside from the edition of 49 by Nicholson in 1929. In excellent condition with full margins on laid paper. Before the area through the doorway is reworked and the two flowers to the left of the man digging are burnished out.
Signed, titled and annotated by the artist in pencil, 3rd St. No 2. The Gamekeeper's Cottage.
This etching is a treasure trove of charming cottage furnishings which exemplifies Tanner's philosophy of filling one's home with beautiful, useful and, where possible, hand-made objects.
