This was Wayne's first lithograph and it was Lynton Kistner who introduced Wayne to lithography at this time. After a decade of further experimentation and trips to Paris to learn more about the medium, having realized there was a dearth of lithographic studios and equipment in the US, Wayne, with the funding of the Ford Foundation, established Tamarind Lithography Workshop, which revived this neglected medium in America. The non-profit learning center went on to foster printmaking over the next several decades by many important artists such as Philip Guston, Sam Francis, David Hockney, Adja Yunkers, Gio Pomodoro, Josef and Annie Albers, Ed Ruscha to name a few.
