Monotype  c. 1900

120 x 245 mm [190 x 330 mm]

Printed in red ink Japanese vellum.

With small pin holes around all sides of the outer edges of the sheet.

A stunning, dazzling image.

Born in Connecticut, William Fowler Hopson was known as one of the most important American bookplate designers and engravers at the turn of the century. His spontaneous monotypes may be found in the collections of the Smithsonian Art Museum and the National Gallery of Art, Washington DC, the Cleveland Museum of Art, Ohio and the Harvard Museums and the Clark Art Institute, Massachusetts. These small intimate often abstract seascapes were well before their time.
