Etching and etching with aquatint [2] 1977-78
145x201mm [sheets 230x302mm and larger]
Reference: Cramer 479
Two extremely rare trial proofs printed for the artist by Alistair Grant and/or Michael Rand prior to the plate’s inclusion in the series The Reclining Figure;[1] the outline etching [click to view] of which Cramer was aware of only three impressions and [2] the etching with aquatint added from the first of two aquatint plates. Cramer describes only two such impressions but we are aware of a third. To strengthen the contours and to add three colours to the final published design a second aquatint plate was also employed. Both are printed on heavy wove sheets with full margins and are in excellent condition.
The Reclining Figure, a portfolio of nine etchings was published by Ganymed Original Editions in 1978 in association with the Louisiana Museum, Denmark in an edition of 65.
Provenance: From the archive of the printer, Michael Rand
