Etching 1888-9 82x121mm [111x150mm]
Ref: Hausberg 15
From the edition of about 40 only; a fine impression printed by the artist in black ink on beige Japan paper and signed in pencil.
The annual Chelsea Regatta, held on Whitsunday, had ceased before Roussel moved to London. The races between the Royal Hospital and Cremorne had ended with the completion of the Chelsea Embankment in 1871 but smaller races and fêtes continued, as illustrated by this etching. The three figures facing the viewer are most likely the artist’s children, Paul (1885-1958),
Jeanne (1880-1964) and Raphael (1883-1967).
